The Amazing Playstation 3

Sony’s Playstation 3 is a multi-faceted home entertainment device. It is not only a game system but it has the capability of playing Blu-ray discs, can store downloaded music as well as videos and the display of digital photos. An Ethernet port and built in Wi-Fi make the connection to your home network easy. There’s even memory card and USB ports so you can transfer media files onto the console’s hard drive, or for connecting your mice and other peripheral devices to the game system. This is not only one of the most popular game systems on the market; this is also the most inexpensive Blu-Ray player on the market.

When you turn on the game system, an easy to use menu is brought up so you can access stored media, games and settings. If you pop a Blu-Ray disc into the console, it will add it to the top of the ‘video’ menu. It’s important to note that Blu-Ray play on the Playstation 3 is lightning fast. If you select Blu-Ray from the menu, the movie begins immediately. There’s none of the whirring noise and delay that you get from dedicated Blu-Ray machines. The image quality for Blu-Ray and games is excellent and on a level with the best of the HD machines.

For game play, the Playstation 3 delivers all the bells and whistles one would expect from Sony and this line of game consoles. They’ve been fantastically successful over the years with the various releases of new generation Playstations. This third generation comes in three configurations; a 60GB, an 80GB and a 120GB. It is important to keep in mind that Sony has been phasing out the 60GB version for some time now. The console’s sound system is surround and has the ability to hook up to external receiver. Your games have never looked or sounded so good.

Overall, the Playstation 3 is a solid choice for your game play and Blu-Ray needs. It comes from industry leader Sony, has a cool design and application interface, and all games are in high definition. The console plays standard DVDs as well as Blu-Ray. It has built in Wi-Fi and a flash media reader. Online game play is free, the output is HDMI and it plays PS2 and PS1 games. This game system delivers all you want and more. It is an excellent stand alone game system, but when you factor in the PS3’s ability to play Blu-Ray and standard DVDs it becomes an affordable and fantastic home theatre console.

Securing Your Wireless Network

As a Realtor, I visit many homes every week. Frequently I'll have my HP tablet PC with me so that I can take notes or have contracts available for clients that I meet. It never ceases to amaze me that I can walk into a home, turn on my computer and 1 out of 3 times have immediate access to the internet. This is not supposed to happen guys. Your wireless network should be secure... only you should be able to access it, not me, not your neighbor, not some dude driving down the street scoping out free internet connections.

Its really weird when several neighbors all unknowningly have unsecured wireless overlapping each other. The people in one house may be using their neighbor's wireless internet thinking that they were in fact using their own. I was in a house once where the homeowner was telling me that he was in the process of moving his wireless box to another room so it was temporarily disconnected. He said that he couldn't figure out why his internet was still working fine and assumed that the wireless box did not have to be plugged in to work. Of course it doesn't have to be plugged in if you are stealing your neighbor's wireless connection!

Stealing may be a strong word in this case, but I'm sure the neighbor may have noticed his internet has been running a little slower lately. The more users you have on a connection, the slower it becomes. But thats not the worst problem.

You've heard about those new wireless video cams. Some people install them all over the house so from many miles away they can keep an eye on the baby's room, the pets, the garden, the entry doors. If someone can get access to your wireless network, it becomes all the easier for them to access your cameras and see whats going on in your own home. This could go on for months and you may never know it.

The solution is to secure your wireless system as soon as you install it in your home. The wireless box has 2 little antennas on it and its called a wireless access point or wireless router. Making it secure is not difficult, but you need to follow the step-by-step instructions that came with the unit. Most people only do step one which is to plug the unit in. If you keep reading, you'll see a section that describes how to set up a secure password. Look for the initials WEP or Data Encryption and that should be checked on. You'll have to store a password for each wireless computer in your home. Its not hard to do and you'll have less reasons to worry about strangers having access to your home network.

More Laptop Memory - More Laptop Performance

Laptops nowadays aren’t just about size anymore. Manufacturers are continuously churning out new laptops with better and higher specifications, so much so that a new laptop right now could be outdated and outperformed by the new models in six months. If you want to improve your laptop’s performance and keep it a little farther away from obsolescence, you should seriously consider buying more laptop memory.

What’s So Special About It?
You’ve probably heard about random access memory (RAM) before. It’s one of the specifications that manufacturers and retailers use to measure up laptop units against one another. If you’ve ever modified or upgraded a desktop computer
before, then you’ve definitely seen how RAM modules look like. They’re the long green strips of chips that are held in position by clamps on the motherboard.

Memory for laptops, however, is very different. RAM modules for laptops are considerably smaller than their desktop counterparts for the simple reason that laptops are smaller. Laptop RAM modules are designed not only to fit in the smaller chassis but also to consume less energy. That’s why laptop memory
is often very expensive. You’re paying for regular performance squeezed into a much smaller component.

Despite the difference in size, RAM in laptops performs the same functions that it does in a desktop computer. Your computer uses RAM to temporarily hold bits of data while your processor is performing calculations. The more RAM you have, the more bits of data your computer can handle simultaneously. That’s the simple explanation why there’s a considerable boost in performance when you add RAM to any computer.

When Should You Get More?
There are some situations that really call for you to buy more memory for your laptop. If, for example, you’ve got a computer that performs sluggishly despite having an adequately fast processor, the problem might lie with the memory (or lack thereof). Installing new or updated software could also require you to add more memory to your laptop.

Most computer users agree that there’s no such thing as ‘too much’ when it comes to RAM on laptops. Although as little as 256MB of RAM will get you by on a basic, no-frills laptop, even that kind of unit will have average to poor performance in terms of speed. High amounts of RAM are nothing short of necessary on laptops running newer operating systems like Windows Vista, where even 1GB of RAM is often not enough.

Before you go to the electronics store and clean out their RAM section, though, it’s a good idea to take a look at your laptop’s user manual first. All laptops have a certain limitation with the amount of RAM that each one can handle. Older models can usually hold up to 2GB, while the latest ones can hold up to 4GB. It’d be an awful waste if you were to buy more RAM, only to find out that your laptop couldn’t handle the addition.

Getting more memory for your laptop isn’t cheap. Buying SODIMM – the size specification for laptop memory – can set you back as much as $120. In most cases, though, the boost in speed and improved performance are well worth the
